Making the Best-ival of a bad situation

kraftwerk

I am just as gutted as my WANARB team mates Knockturnal and HazMat that I am missing out on seeing Kraftwerk this weekend. But I am more gutted that I just had this great idea just now and not last week, or to be more accurate before Bank Holiday Weekend when I jizzed all my money away like a simpleton.

Kraftwerk are the most important electronic act ever. In my eyes they are second only to Giorgio Moroder in amazingness of vision, skill and influence. 3rd comes Afrika Baambaata, but without Kraftwerk he arguably would have been nothing. Anyway, the amazing idea…

Man Machine

I simply shoulda hired these guys! Man Machine are a Kraftwerk tribute act. If only I had £800 – they could have come to my house and played a gig for me and all the other people who are sad they’re missing tomorrow’s electro-extravaganza.

But I don’t.

A slightly cheaper option would be to get hold of a copy of 8-Bit Operators, a compilation album of ‘chiptune’ bands covering Kraftwerk. From what I’ve heard here, it’s fairly hit and miss, but I am a sucker for these geeky bands that use instruments made from old 8 bit consoles!

Bestival’s theme this year is outer space, which gives me the perfect chance to give y’all this classic from the archives!

Babylon Zoo – Spaceman

Kraftwerk – The Robots
