Disco of Doom are Invading… New EP and Mix tape!

Posted in Festival, mix, New Music, Tech, Techno, We are not a rock band with tags , , , , , , on May 18, 2011 by Knockturnal

Disco of Doom are invading. But don’t worry, there’s no need to run to the hills, not yet anyway… This invasion is a good thing, an invasion of good music if you will, in the form of their latest EP ‘Invader’ (which dropped this week on Discobelle Records) and an awesome new mix tape they’ve put together as a preview for their upcoming set at Glade Festival.

The new EP features four original tunes from the boys as well as three remixes from Arveene & Misk, Bowski and Mason. Powerful, driving and with a hint of menace in each of the tracks, I think it’s safe to say that if techno is your thing you’re gonna dig it. Don’t just take my word for it though, the EP has already gained support from major players such as Annie Mac, MixhellLarry T, Bart B More, Tony Senghore, Jaymo & Andy George, DousterJapanese PopstarsEtienne De Crecy and many more!

As a bonus Disco of Doom are giving away Arveene & Misk’s remix of Invader which you can grab for yourself simply by ‘Liking’ their Facebook page, so what you waiting for? Go get it! Download the Glade mix below, track list is after the Jump…

Potty Mouth Disco Returns – 29/01/11

Posted in Club Night, electro, French electro, Gigs, Minimal, mix, Techno, Warehouse Party, We are not a rock band with tags , , , on January 26, 2011 by Knockturnal

It’s normally around this time of year that I’ll moan about what a lousy month January is. But I’m not going to this year, as aside from being a bit of a quiet month, 2011 has actually been pretty good to me (so far). I’ve still been skint though (like proper skint) and am eagerly awaiting pay day, ’cause once pay day comes it’ll be time to party again, and the party we’re most looking forward to this month is Potty Mouth Disco on the 29th!

Anyone who was there for their Halloween party in October will tell you what an amazing night it was (check out the video here) and this month looks set to be just as special, being held at a brand new, never been used, East London warehouse location, with a headline slot from Parisian techno heavy weight Electric Rescue. Playing a full debut london live set, taking you on a journey through Popof-style minimal, melodic and industrial strength techno. Check out the 20 min sample below from one of his live sets in December. Definitely not one to miss, this will rock your box!

Also on the bill are WANARB favourites Disco Of Doom, one of London’s latest rising stars in the techno/house scene, following their massive dancefloor success ‘Sex Face’, they absolutely smashed it at our party in the summer, expect more of the same this time! They’ll be joined by Italian stallions, Franz & Shape for a one off London live show, and dj support from Alex Warren (Orlando Boom), Pete Carvell (Gash Digital), and PMD resident Red Ben.

Venue details will be announced friday, make sure you add yourselves to the Potty Mouth Disco Facebook event page to be kept in the loop. Tickets are still available and can be purchased here.

See you on the dancefloor!

Our pals Tom Real and Ben Medcalf AKA Disco Of Doom have sent us through a new track of theirs to share with you, our wonderful readers!

It the first single taken off their forthcoming EP that’s due to be released on Discobelle Records. It’s already been receiving props from the likes of Annie Mac, and looks set to bolster their ascent to fame in the electronic world. Keep your eyes peeled for the release – methinks it’s gonna be explosive.

RIP Charles Haddon

Posted in bands, We are not a rock band with tags , , , on August 24, 2010 by keifallen

I was planning on fitting two posts in one here, Disco of Doom and Ou Est Le Swimming Pool. I’d written the post a few weeks back and had yet to get around to coding the links. Sadly, this post is now going up just days after Charles Haddon from Ou Est Le Swimming Pool took his own life at Pukkelpop Festival in Belgium. I saw him play at The Great Escape in Brighton earlier on this year, and that’s where the photo is from. I wasn’t expecting much, and on record, you cannot get the ridiculous amount of energy that they exude. They were fucking awesome and had a fair few hundred people dancing their asses off whilst we were all praying that it wouldn’t rain, which thankfully it didn’t. I was excited about seeing them live again, Charles seemed to have the crowd in the palm of his hand, and the young schoolgirls squeezed up at the front were screaming like it was 1994 and they were at an East 17 concert. For a band I wasn’t sure about, and went to watch on a whim, I was taken aback at how good they were. Their last single, ‘Dance the Way I Feel’ is throwback electronic pop made by boys who certainly don’t fit the traditional boy band mould, so did it their own way.

Disco Of Doom kindly took a few moments out of their busy schedule to speak to WANARB about what they are preparing to unleash upon the world. They’ve also kindly made us a mix (which they made last night), plus given us a killer track for you to download for free! Aren’t they nice. Catch Disco Of Doom DJ-ing at our warehouse party this Saturday! (We’re starting to get a bit excited now…)

Hot on the heels of us announcing that we’ve got Disco Of Doom playing at our warehouse party on July 31st, the kind chaps have kindly given us a wee exclusive for you guys to get your teeth into. First aired by Kissy Sell Out on Radio 1 two weeks ago, it is now available for free download, all you have to do is click below and it’s yours. So get involved! (More stuff from DoD on its way too).

These guys are on fire at the moment! Check out their souncloud if these little tasters aren’t enough for you – or if you want a couple more tracks (including their INCREDIBLE James Yuill remix) click here for our previous post on them. Last time I came across artists that were as on-fire as these guys are at the moment, it was Popof way back in 2008…

Acen – Close your eyes (Disco Of Doom remix)

Here’s another dirt bag they’ve made. We can’t share this one with you but you get the idea:

Disco Of Doom – Engine

I’ve also been lucky enough to hear some of the tracks they’re currently working on in the studio. Off. The. Hook. Stay tuned.

We’re having a Warehouse Party!

Posted in Club Night, Warehouse Party, We are not a rock band with tags , , , , on July 12, 2010 by Knockturnal

While there maybe rain this morning, you’ve got to admit, it’s been a pretty awesome summer so far? So awesome in fact that we thought it was worth celebrating, so we’re throwing another warehouse party, this time at new Shoreditch underground venue ‘The Basement’. Our last party was one-in one-out by midnight – meaning that loads of people couldn’t get in. This time, we’ve got a bigger venue to fit all you crazy kids in, but we would advise you to buy a ticket in case it’s a similar scenario!

You can buy tickets from here.

We’ve enlisted the services of some MEGA DJ’s – those of you who follow the blog are probably already aware of them – those who aren’t, we can assure you – they’re amazing. Here’s a bit of info on them:

BURNS

Traveling to us straight from his main stage slot at Global Gathering the very same day, Glasgow-born Burns combines the feel good factor of disco with the pounding intensity of electro. Citing acts as diverse as D Train, Daft Punk, Cassius and Donna Summer as some of his main influences, Burns’ sound is gaining him a lot of attention from both music titles and clubbers alike. His collaboration with French electronic master Fred Falke, ‘You’ve Stopped Loving Me’ is hotly tipped to be one the biggest anthems in both Ibiza and the UK this summer. Furthermore, the recently released European Sex Music compilation has been rewarded with rave reviews, and one of his tracks was selected by Kelis to feature on her latest album, Flesh Tone.

Burns did an exclusive mix for us back in May, if you missed it first time around you can grab it here.

DISCO OF DOOM

Disco of Doom are London-based DJ and production duo Tom Real and Ben Medcalf. The duo deliver sick electro / techno bangers, and are fast becoming some of the most sought after remixers around. The kind of stuff we’ve been hearing them produce recently is incredible, and if they’re not well known by the end of the year we’ll eat our collective hats. Seriously, you need to hear some of their tracks. They’ll blow you away.

Disco of Doom are putting together an exclusive mix for us this week, so keep your eyes peeled for when that drops. We also have an exclusive track to give you which will probably go up today or tomorrow. Until then check out their Sound cloud, they’ve recently uploaded a tonne of new tracks and they’re Sick. As. Hell.

With support from Bark Matter and our own We Are Not a Rock Band DJ’s this is going to be one party you don’t want to miss!

Advance tickets are available here and are selling fast, early bird tickets are just £5!

Disco Of Doom

Posted in After-party, anthem, Dirt, electro, remix/cover, Techno, We are not a rock band with tags , , , , on July 2, 2010 by Montagano

Disco Of Doom are an act that are killing it at the moment. One of their remixes featured on our We Are Not a Rock Band’s 1st Birthday CD back in February – it’s an absolute killer (it’s below if you missed it). Go to their Beatport page and you’ll find banger after banger, all of which would snugly fit into any respectable DJs’ late night set. Fortunately for us they’re currently working on heaps of new stuff – so you can expect to be hearing lots more about them on WANARB in weeks and months to come…

So who are they? Well – the duo, based in London, are actually a team-up of ex-breakbeat juggernaughts – Rogue Element and Tom Real. I was a huge fan of them both when breaks was the cote du jour, so it’s pretty inevitable that I’m gonna be loving their every move nowadays. In fact, in my humblest of opinions (and Biftathekid‘s), Calm by Rogue Element is one of the all-time great breakbeat tunes. There – I said it.

Anyway, I’ll stop waffling – check these badboys out:

A little birdie tells me that Discobelle blogged a 320kps version of this track. Where? Here? Who knows.

This next one is a fuckin’ stonker. And I don’t use that word lightly.

Hiroki Esashika – Kazane (Disco Of Doom remix)
