Free Download: Sixth Avenue Express

Posted in Free Download, We are not a rock band with tags , , , , on October 5, 2012 by Montagano

Sixth Avenue Express is steadily building a strong repertoire of top-quality productions – and most of them are free to download. All of his tracks are nu-disco pitched around the 90-110 bpm mark, and I must say I’ve developed a bit of an unhealthy obsession with ‘The Shame’ (second track below) – the moody / melancholic vibes are infectious!

Both tracks here are free to download, and if you want more freebies, head to his Facebook page.

OOPS, I DONE A SICK

Unless you’ve had your head lodged firmly up your bum you’ll have noticed we are having a party. And if you haven’t bought a ticket yet you better get your click on HERE because they are selling like cakes that were baked in the center of the sun.

In spirit of said party I’m giving you a funk filled nu-disco number to wet your New Jack based appetite, as that will be the order of play for some of the aforementioned shenanigans.

So this slick piece of rock funk (I hate that term, but that’s what their bio says… bear with me) was born in Portland by a trio called Strength, but bounced hard in Brooklyn on the way here for a pretty jackin remix by The Whole Sick Crew (I can’t decide whether I love or hate that name?) Its a pretty poppy tune and only lasts 3m49s, but is perfectly formed to be a ‘sound of your summer’ style anthem with hints of Chromeo and MGMT, a sort of shoulderpad indie on rollerskates, if you will.

A quick scan of their other tunes on their Myspace and Soundcloud pages reveals a quite random collection of production spanning techno, crunk, pop, electro, minimal and speedcore?!? And not many plays on each either, also quite frankly there isn’t much about them on the all encompassing interweb too, so if you’re in the states can you let us know if they’re still alive…in the meantime enjoy.

Aeroplane – We Can’t Fly

Posted in anthem, disco, Electronica, Nu-Disco, remix/cover, We are not a rock band with tags , , , , , , , on June 7, 2010 by Montagano

Oooh – lookie what we have here. It’s none other than ‘We Can’t Fly’ the first single off Aeroplane’s debut album – THE most anticipated album of 2010, which lands later this year (I cannot wait).

I’ve only heard this one track off their album, but judging by their incredible remixing abilities that have single-handedly shot them to stardom in the past year or two, they are on course to getting the same, if not more recognition than Justice did when they released ‘Cross’ in 2007.

Listen and enjoy

Aeroplane – We Can’t Fly

There’s more! Here’s a Radio 1 rip of the Aeroplane remix of one of my favourite tunes of the year – Baby I’m Yours by Breakbot. And guess what? It’s fuckin rad!

Breakbot – Baby I’m Yours feat Irfane (Aeroplane remix)

Here’s yet another incredible remix. As with all their other remixes – this is an instant classic. Damn they’re so good.

Tensnake

Posted in disco, House, Nu-Disco, We are not a rock band with tags , , , , on May 20, 2010 by Montagano

Recently, I’ve had a mini obsession with Tensnake’s ‘Coma Cat’ – it’s been around for yonks but remains one of the most blissed out nu-disco/house tracks I’ve heard. So, who is this Tensnake chap I hear you ask? Well, he’s from Hamburg, has been producing music on and off for around 10 years, and aims to have his debut album completed by the end of this year. He had actually made half it, but then deleted everything off his computer cos he didn’t like it!!!!! Shocker. He could’ve  just given it to me and I could’ve pretended I’d made it!! Damn him (not really).

ANYWAY – quite a stir is being caused by Tensnake’s latest remix of Azari III’s ‘Reckless with your love’, which is released sometime this month on Permanent Vacation. Check it out below and see what you think.

And of course, here is the wonderful Coma Cat for you to fall in love with (if you hadn’t already).

2010 – year of the Breakbot (and Ed Banger?)

Posted in We are not a rock band with tags , , , , , , , , on March 14, 2010 by Montagano

Ed Banger – W.A.N.A.R.B. salutes you. We had all thought that with the passing of the stomping French electro scene circa 2008, Ed Banger had nowhere to turn and was effectively doomed. A long time passed with no releases, and dance music trends moved away from the French sound that had dominated the world of electro. However, Busy P and co. had other ideas, and last year released a track called Interplanetary music by Mickey Moonlight. Fat disco-house: druggy enough to be played in a club, mellow enough to be played in a bar.

Well done them – keeping on top of the times. But then this comes along and blows EVERYTHING apart. Ed Bangers coming-of-age collides head on with Breakbots coming-of-age to give us a tune of astronomical proportions. Breakbot has always been a producer who is there or thereabouts, but now he is truly living up the potential that he’s been displaying for a while. I’ve had ‘Baby I’m Yours’ on repeat for 3 weeks now, I cannot stop listening to it. Truly amazing.

MOVE OVER JUSTICE – THIS IS THE NEW FRENCH SOUND!!! Summer ’10 is gonna be a good one boys and girls.

Now that you’ve fallen in love – try these out for size… Oh. My. God.

I’d just like to say sorry to all of the bands, producers, managers and agencies that sent tunes to us. I would love to have done a single post for all of you with your pics and links etc but as there are so many tracks here that I simply don’t have the time to do so. Once all of these are up we will keep on top of our emails and take a good look at everything we’re sent. Also, for those who have sent us stuff and don’t see it up here – sorry again. Not all tunes/emails would download (probably my internet playing up) and as there were so many I didn’t wait around to try and see what was wrong – I just skipped to the next email.

Anyway – Keep the tunes coming boys and girls – we’re getting on top of it now so you could soon see your stuff up on WANARB!

The Golden Filter are officially badass.

Posted in We are not a rock band with tags , , on May 9, 2009 by Montagano

Golden Filter

Having just found out about The Golden Filter we’ve been intrigued to find out whether their other stuff is as good as the remix of Polly Scattergood that I posted here a few of days ago. After a little hunt around, it’s clear to see that EVERYTHING they have done is fat. They use sluggish, stomping Justice-esque beats, and their sound is a cross over of dirty nu-disco and proper electro.

So who are they? No idea. They don’t give much away on their myspace apart from the fact that they’re from NYC, but what I do know is that we’re getting very excited about them here at the WANARB HQ. I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes out for more of their stuff…

italians do it better

‘No Static’ by Bottin is an amazing song from the amazing label ‘Italians Do It Better‘. Bottin hails from the murky canals of Venice and he has created a modern day italo-disco classic here. Feast your ears!

Disco is the future

Posted in We are not a rock band with tags , , , , , , on March 1, 2009 by Montagano

ldn

I’ve been having trouble decided what songs to post in this blog, because I have got soooo much amazing nu-disco/chilled/house (whatever you want to pigeon-hole as) at the moment. So what I think I’ll do is post loads and talk less. That way, everyone’s a winner.

I’m loving all of these tunes at the moment – and they’re not full on bangers at all. Electro is getting so saturated with crap these days and most songs that I hear just seem to be slightly different takes on something that’s already been done. But nu-disco, whilst drawing on many already established influences, seems to be fresh and full of good ideas. For the time being anyway…

David Rubato – Circuit (Aeroplane remix)

Friendly Fires – Paris ft. Au Revoire Simone (Aeroplane remix)

Curses! – The deep end (Holy Ghost remix)

Munk – Down in L.A. (Shazam remix)

Sebastien Tellier – Kilometer (A-Trak main)

Faze Action – Hypnotic (dub mix)
